What would happen if we all became the leaders we wish we had?
Great things, probably.

But where will this leap of greatness come from? Perhaps, it will come from a sense of shared purpose and destiny. Simon Sinek’s book, the inspiration for this piece, the author says it is the combined problem-solving ability of a group of people who trust each other. The ability of a group of people to do remarkable things hinges on how well those people pull together as a team

Here, we have a “group” of fiber-optic cables. Each of the elements have to “trust” the other.

Relying on each other and collaboration is what led me to choose a metal fastener from the railing industry, to function as a hanging bracket to suspend this light fixture from the ceiling, using a woven stainless-steel cable.

Note that every strand of cable gives very little light when standing by itself, but when grouped together, it illuminates above the table where leaders eat last. In other words, even fiber-optic cable “knows” that more often than not, it’s better to be part of a team and work cooperatively to achieve a common goal.

Each cable is a simple, unnoteworthy object on its own. But together, they create an intricate, complex, fascinating web of light, captivating the viewers, and leaving them with the unanswerable question of “why can’t I take my eyes off this artifact?”
