When one thinks of a storm, the automatic thought that arises is the destruction it creates: the physical destruction and human distress it leaves in its path.
As someone who has lived in Florida for more than 30 years, hurricanes have become a fairly regular element in my personal and creative experience. I’ve lived through several.
But even hurricanes do not leave behind only destruction: sometimes the strong wind uproots and pulls trees out of place, and in the process, gifting us raw material with a history of beautiful stories embedded in the wood. From this transformation one may learn something. When the hurricane ripped part of the roof off my son’s bedroom, the terrible storm took on an undeniable reality in my life.
My son, by the way, continued his sleep, which is also a force of nature. The marvelous pieces of wood that nature has struck with such intensity, I turn them into works of art that receive the most perfect and in-depth treatment that traditional and innovative technologies allow. This is part of a vision that corresponds with ancient philosophies and also with popular culture.
When Jason M’raz sings, he tells us to “look for the good in everything”, and this furniture is a perfect embodiment of this optimistic wholeness.
